My kids have learned that if they would like something that I might not otherwise agree to, all they need to do is ask me in the morning while I'm still sleeping, when my primary concern is getting back to sleep. Somehow, I ended up agreeing to let Sammy have chocolate syrup on his waffles two days ago. This only came up when Henry tried the same trick and failed. (His mistake may have been practicing tuba before asking...I was a little more awake when the question was asked.) They have also learned that I give very strange answers when asked things at the same hour of the day. How did I end up having kids that are so chipper in the mornings? (Lucky for them...it makes it easier for them to be ready for the bus on time.)
